I've had the exact same issue... The problem was caused by the nuePerformance program. It's a program that "overclocks" the processor to 500+MHz when needed. Once I removed the program from my ROM the problem went away.

I know you said no programs were installed but maybe it came with the ROM. So I'd check to see if you have this program installed...

Thank you for the suggestion Yaco, no such program runs on my phone. I checked the entire OS for the program you mentioned and it wasn't there. So I presume my problem isn't due to that.
