BT Mic sounds tinny and garbled with dropouts after WM6.1 upgrade

After I upgraded my 6700 apache to WM 6.1 I started getting complaints from everyone that it sounded like I was talking in a tin can when usin my BT headset. My voice sounds garbled, robotic and generally breaks up and is unintelligible.
I have tried:
changing the Sprit compression on the phone to 13K , SVM and others with little change
I am using a Cardo Scala 500. I have tested 2 other Scala units and a Jabra BT 5010 with no change.
I have fiddled with the reg hacks to change the Channel from 2 to 5, 7, 69 with minimal improvement (5 was best for my BT headset)
I have applied the "HTC BT audio fix"
I have applied the "Bluetooth Volume reg changes"
I have tried configs with Voice command installed and without with no change

All of the threads I have found on this have ended without a solution that works for me. I know the Mogul had an issue but that thread ended after a new OEM came out for that phone that resolved the issue. I think it is related to the BT stack...

Anyone?
