Adjusting the SLC will help since it will be polling the towers faster for any calls coming to the phone <---people have claimed battery life is reduced a tad, which is understandable now that the phone is cycling more often.
I have my backlight..set for 30 sec......but I do have the 3500ma extended battery....and yep the backlight does turns on here and there in my case..but I am still able to last the day even with checking email every hr and some interneting...either get an extended battery/leave the phone on sleep to save battery...or always have your cables for fast access charging when the battery goes low.
If you are on standard battery...try reducing the background light level..to save battery.
It is a give and take on this issue/subject.
