I'm running the 3.37 radio from the Alltel ROM and a cooked ROM using PPCKitchen. I just applied a new ROM today built from the 3.02 Sprint ROM and so far have no problems.
As long as you are careful and follow directions, you shouldn't have a problem. I used the SD card method of applying the various ROM upgrades instead of activesync. There's a good thread here:

Just make sure the SD card is less than 2 GB for this to work.
