I wasn't trying to make any implications about your knowledge of the subject, I was just trying to clear up an apparent assumption by some people about the need to run GPS Viewer before running other GPS apps.

Priming vs operating really seems like a semantic issue, but I understand what you are saying, and I thought that is what I was getting at when I said: "It initiates the GPS, then redirects the output to whatever you tell it to (BT, a particular com port, etc)."

There are some programs that simply refuse to work with the native WM GPS intermediate driver. It's not just a matter of feedback on the progress toward a lock. Some will absolutely, positively not work, which is why a program like GPSGate is sometimes necessary. I was using priming in the sense that it initiates and controls access to the GPS chip. Maybe that is an incorrect usage, I don't know, but in that sense there absolutely are programs that require "priming."
