Re: Bingo !!! I finally have assisted GPS whoohoo
I think there might be some confusion regarding "priming" of the GPS. I don't believe GPS Viewer does anything unique to activate the GPS chip. Any number of programs can be used: Google Maps, Live Search, GPS Viewer, GPSToday, etc. The whole issue of priming really only relates to a few programs that have trouble initiating and/or accessing the built-in GPS themselves. These are mainly dedicated Nav programs like iGuidance, TomTom, etc., that were written to take GPS data specifically from an external BT/USB GPS unit.
iGuidance does require the use of another program to prime the GPS. In this case, GPSGate is the program doing the priming. It initiates the GPS, then redirects the output to whatever you tell it to (BT, a particular com port, etc).
I've never needed GPS Viewer to access the GPS chip on my Mogul or on several Touch's I've updated for family members. I've always just fired up Google Maps and gotten a lock. I think some of the confusion might stem from the fact that it often takes quite a while to obtain the initial lock after the ROM/radio update. People might try Google Maps, but give up before it has time to get that initial lock. Then if you try GPS Viewer, you get the impression that it is doing more because it shows you the satellites that are currently being tracked. Either program will have the same time to lock, as it is the hardware and radio firmware that are doing all the work. They just display the data differently.
