Do you have the HTC Keyboard installed at all?
With the stock ROM I noticed that in some applications I would only ever get the HTC Keypad even when the Keyboard popped up (i.e. could only type numbers into password fields).
After installing OMJs ROM I installed the cab file for the HTC Keyboard & Keypad conveniently located in OMJs ftp section

OMJ, There is one other thing I have been missing... When I send a text message it doesn't do look ahead as i type in the letters/numbers for the recipient... Maybe just a reg edit??
