you running an upgraded rom ? the issue may the be converter. the audio out has been widely reported to be an issue with upgraded roms.. although there are workaround.
one being to bend up the number 1 pin on the USBsplitter cable that came with the phone, the other (which works for me), it to FIRST plug the splitter cable into the phone, THEN plug in the headphone to the splitter..
dont laugh, i know it's a simple thing, but it does in fact work only in that sequence. this has been posted tested and verified over at XDA as well.
