this has been answered a gajillion times but ill answer it for ya-

The GPSone chip in the mogul/touch can work a few different ways....

if you use a program like sprint nav, google maps, or live search, then yes, you need the internet because these programs use the internet connection to download the maps while you are moving.

You can also purchase programs like Tom Tom, which can operate without the internet, but the maps have to be stored on your device/storage card. These type of programs do not need the internet, and can work just fine using the internal GPS sensor, as long as you have the maps stored already.
