when you start google/live/gps viewer/etc you are initiating a cold start, meaning the gps unit was previously off. This will take avg 1-3 min to get a lock. Now you use your gps and then close google/live/viewer/etc down to conserve your battery. You are cutting the gps "data stream" from the satellites. There will be no gps data present on the phone at all left. Thus, next time you start google/live/viewer, you will be doing ANOTHER cold start meaning and 1-3 avg min lock.

This is how gps on our phones works. This is not a dedicated gps unit that you leave constantly on that can immediately be accessed or a bluetooth receiver you always leave plugged in and on. The gps radio is constantly being turned on and off, meaning waits for locks every time.

So unless you constantly leave google or the viewer open, killing your battery, an instant lock cannot be expected
That is exactly right, my only exception is whe nusing Google Maps, it'll show a position within about 10 seconds, even though its not locked on any sats. I believe this is the aGPS getting my location from the cell towers, not the sats. This initial position is usually close to my location, but not exact. Once the (0) start showing numbers, then I know I'm actually using the true GPS and have stas locked.
