My Mogul has never, gotten warm & I have many o' functions updating & polling data (24/7).
Though Admittedly I don't use it when its plugged in but still, its on and updating things like RSS, Weather, Backups, Dashwire etc. etc.
I'd let a Sprint repair tech look at it. Last thing you want is the phone to turn into a Lithium battery bomb LOL.
