Am I supposed to sync my device to the computer and then run the setup from that dvd or am I suppose to do something different?

Lastly, I tried to download the map installer but it shut down with an error saying it didnt detect a previous version installed. Do I need mapinstall?
Put the dvd in with the 2008 map on it and close the auto run.
Go to your computer and your dvd drive right click and Explore.
In one of the files you'll see the installer for your language click it and install your map .

Download the Map installer "Link in first post" sync and load your map to you device.
Takes about 20/30 minutes.
