For sprint to have the ability to send MMS messages they have to have a MMS Gateway/Server. What I understand is that MS and RIM is helping create a GUI/Client that will use Webservices to interface with Sprints MMS service also known as Picture Mail.
As far as sMMS, it will try to keep it around as long as possible. Hopefully long after Sprint releases their version and I will attempt to offer a better user Experience, unless MS steals my concept as they usually do.

If the Sprint implementation of PictureMail on the WM devices means that we will be able to send an MMS message from our Sprint WM device, and receive an MMS message on our Sprint WM device without the need to navigate to a webpage containing the picture, then I can see where PictureMail is a GUI to MMS. If we still receive an SMS message with a link to a picture on a website, then it is not a GUI to MMS, but a conversion of MMS to a different technology.
