It would probably be less expensive and less maintenance in the long run, as well as more satisfying to the users, if Sprint were to abandon the proprietary PictureMail product and just license MMS; but at least having PictureMail for WM devices is a start.
There may be a continuing demand for the sMMS application if it can mimic MMS better than PictureMail does.

Not exactly accurate, MMS is a technology not a product. Picture Mail is the Graphical User Interface(GUI) for MMS. Just like ArcSofts MMS is a generic GUI for MMS, just that sprints has a web-based version. Sprint Brands their MMS service as Picture Mail, which has a Java/Midlet Client for "Normal" phones. For sprint to have the ability to send MMS messages they have to have a MMS Gateway/Server. What I understand is that MS and RIM is helping create a GUI/Client that will use Webservices to interface with Sprints MMS service also known as Picture Mail.
As far as sMMS, it will try to keep it around as long as possible. Hopefully long after Sprint releases their version and I will attempt to offer a better user Experience, unless MS steals my concept as they usually do.
