That said, I'm not wrong about the tone here. I know you guys are doing the best you can, but it wouldn't hurt to be a little nicer. When the Colonel says, "As stated before, if this is too much of a concern for you, feel free to leave the login and password fields blank," knowing full well what that means, it comes across as callous and arrogant. A brief and civil explanation of why the login is a necessary feature, what it will do for the project and why it can't be removed might have gone over better.
Let me try to show you the other side of the coin...

Suppose you were digging a well, and after finally getting your well working you pumped a few glasses of water and offerred a sample to everyone. Further suppose that when you offerred the fruits of your labor to me, I looked at it and said "Why can't it be in a green cup? all the other water I've had is in a green cup." What would your response be? If that exchange took place with a 2 yr old, I might well explain why it's not in a green cup. When I'm talking to an adult, my response is you clearly need a lesson in manners and can get your own water.

Frankly, that you think an explanation is owed is an arrogant and wrong presumption. Not one thing is owed to you. That a partial explanation was offerred was beyond the call of duty, and yet you still demand more. I'm sorry, but you'll have to be satisfied with what's been so generously provided. We've given untold hours of our time and and expertise free for the asking, and if you want to say that not being willing to discuss why a login is required changes the tone to callous and arrogant, well, you're entitled to your opinion, but that's completely irrational.
