I know I've come across as a strident jerk, and that really wasn't my intent. It's been a tough week for me for personal reasons and I think some of that bled into my posting. I really do appreciate the work that's gone into this project.

That said, I'm not wrong about the tone here. I know you guys are doing the best you can, but it wouldn't hurt to be a little nicer. When the Colonel says, "As stated before, if this is too much of a concern for you, feel free to leave the login and password fields blank," knowing full well what that means, it comes across as callous and arrogant. A brief and civil explanation of why the login is a necessary feature, what it will do for the project and why it can't be removed might have gone over better.
