That couldn't be more true.
If the public had any idea how jimmy-rigged equipment is sometimes, there would be a lot less passengers willing to fly. (Not that it stops me, but I'm brave like that.)
Whatever gets you past your shift is good enough, right?
Temp-repairs become permanent ones. Silicone sealant to fix stripped screws. (Because the book says an exterior panel must have all screws in place. It doesn't say HOW they must be in place.)
Whenever I watch the news and some aircraft part has fallen off, I always think about that.
