I just hope I can get this working by tonight.... I have a flight tomorrow and I want to use gps on the plane [MYTHBUSTERS PROVED CELL PHONES DON'T MESS WITH PLANE EQUIPTMENT]
I'm surprised I missed that Mythbusters episode. I'll have to look up their methods.

Here comes another know-it-all answer:

I worked in the Air Force as a communications and navigations specialist for ten years and in my experience, never was able to affect equipment while on the plane using all sorts of neato gadgets. I was naughty and did a lot of playing when bored on nightshift. This included (but wasn't limited to) splicing an mp3 player in to the PA system and utilizing handheld GPS while onboard. (and I had a much beefier unit than the Mogul.) I was never able to produce any disturbance in equipment. The planes I worked on upgraded to permanent GPS modules over time, so that killed my fun.
I never went as far as to play with electronics RIGHT ON an antenna. Did Mythbusters do that? Even so, it would be tough to get to most antennas in flight. lol.
Speaking of antennas (receiving), their placement on aircraft is a direct result of:
#1. Testing (duh)
#2. Direction of incoming signals (line-of-site to ground, ionosphere, other aircraft, or space)
#3. Hazardous emmissions. - some equipment will cause you to become... uh... steril?

At least that what I was taught. Keep in mind I'm government trained and could be brainwashed from too much time in front of the weather radar dish.
