I'm not familiar with SPB Backup but generally speaking you have to be careful what you restore after a ROM upgrade. Programs are okay, other items that are embedded in the old ROM will cause problems. In terms of backing up, I find the registry key for each software program I install (there may be more than one) and I save or export it to my SD card. This includes, for instance, the registry keys that hold the software registration keys. I also keep all CABs on my SD card. I flash to a new ROM....install CABs....import registry entries. I'm usually up and running within 15 mins.
