I had never had the problem with creaking on my Touch until I dropped it one day. I have no idea why, but the creaking began in two places: along the left edge and top right corner, near the stylus. Three sheets of paper was enough to eliminate the problem. Plus, the battery door doesn't come off in my pocket anymore!
