Yahoo Go works fine with the new GPS, and it does NOT need a proxy. However, it does not know how to initiate the GPS, so you have to start the GPS service before you start Yahoo GO. The simplest way to do this is by starting another GPS program first - you'll find that Yahoo Go works fine.

A more permanent solution is to use AstroGPSLauncher to start Yahoo Go:
