My understanding is that this sort of watches over SD card issues, and is required if you use a memory card. My Vogue with stock ROM has an SDDaemon.exe (53.4K) as well as sddaemon.lnk (26B), both in \Windows\ directory, plus another sddaemon.lnk (26B) file in \Windows\StartUp\ folder. My Vogue with a custom ROM has only something named sdmemory.dll (10.8K) in \Windows\, and no sddaemon, neither in Windows nor in StartUp. And memory cards work well in both phones.
