I finally took the time to mess around with this.
If I put a fresh install in and booted straight to a 3.x kernel, it would mess up with a fresh or old data.img.
I tried doing a fresh install, new data.img but booted into the 2.x kernel that is in the latest gbx0c package. Worked - upgraded to newer kernel after and it stayed working. Weird.
When I'd go straight to a 3.x kernel, it would not properly use the FN key on the RHOD400's keyboard, so I was unable to use symbols and so on, along with the screen rotation weirdness.
