Hrm. Seems other native devices experience the same issue, and someone has solved it in a unique manner:

Basically it's an extension that spoofs your Android device, and grabs the APK so it can easily be sideloaded.
Not the best solution, but if native devices are having this problem I'm not sure what's the solution. I read another thread (can't find it right now) but there's an app that will adjust the lcd.density setting for you, then you just reboot and the Market/"Play" will act differently. As I understand it, Google uses this screen size setting to deliver apps. I'm sure it also runs a few getprops, could even be looking at processor arch - in which case, app devs might be removing support for armv6...
