Juice Defender was good back in 2.1, as of 2.2 and 2.3 Android has added a lot of battery saving features. Ah, that explains things. It did wonders for me back in my Froyo(ACS SRF 1.2) days, but like the OP, I'm running GB(ACS 5.5 + ShadowKernel) nowadays.
