I've noticed that what causes the Android OS to spike (at least for me) is when I leave the house and forget to turn off wifi. I've repeated this hypothesis every time. If I turn off wifi when NOT within range of a known network, no battery drainage issue or Android OS spike, but if I forget to do so, there's a bug where the wifi radio is just scanning at will and battery drains flat in 6 - 7 hours flat.
Coming from an o.g Epic and NS4G, this behaviour is not normal but at least I narrowed down the battery sucking culprit in my case.
Running viperROM version 2.
