You don't really need to lie about the phone but it doesn't hurt either. It may take many tries until you find a Rep that doesn't ask too many questions, if after 5-8 tries and no luck try a different time, tons of info on HoFo about this and we are more than willing to help if you get stumped in the process.
Also, do you plan on porting your number over to Boost? If so the easiest method is to activate an iden phone and account with your number port, wait a few hours and call in swap to a cdma account tell the CSR you are going to activate the phone yourself and get the 3 numbers from them.
Edit- ACL do you already have a boost account with an activated phone?
