From what you described in your first post, it sounds like you have a bad battery first of all. Then if you can verify the battery is ok or swap it with one that will charge then do what eric suggested and see if you can flash the shipped rom.
When the phone is powered down and you plug it into a charger or usb port does the orange charging light come on and stay on?

I was also thinking a bad USB port on the device , these things are common for that I've had three in a row ! wonder if mymobler can still work to display the screen . |
Yep, you could be right. That's partially why I asked if the op plugs it into the charger does it charge. Troubleshooting has to start with the simple things.
