might not be necessary. For whatever reason people who used the HTC unlock can flash kernels w/ Fastboot

In the post the guy states that he removed the kernel from whatever rom he was using, flashed it with fastboot. Hopefully a bit more elaboration comes out for us mouth breathing noobs.
