Honestly Dave, I never have. But a lot of problems are the result of corrupted data, whether it be in /system or anywhere else. If you've had no luck with any ROMs, I would back up the sd card and format it. Really, it can't hurt and I've seen it fix some problems that you normally wouldn't even associate with the sd card.
