i loaded the new bonsai rom and the issue was gone.

I prefer this ROM however and was hoping someone may be able to provide some insight.

never read about it here or xda or when i used robs roms, is it all ringtones and only ringtones? im a ringtone junkie and i try all at one time or another so im positive i would have noticed and im sure i would have noticed other actions if "crackling" sound was there. also odd cause im 99% sure robs base for his roms is bonsai so you may have speaker going bad and its intermittent at this point.
