Not unless he wants to remove the htc widget and install a different one.

What it's doing is that the time stops on the flip clock when you turn the screen off. When you turn it back on, it flips from the time you turn the screen off to the current time. My old htc touch pro did this also. I personally like it but everyone has different tastes.
