Google able to remove apps from our phones?

Can Google remove an app from our phones?

My phone did a bunch of updating today and I just noticed that the icon on one of my home screens was one of those generic "app missing" icons. When I tapped on it, it told me that Best Tube wasn't installed anymore. I went to the market to redownload it but it's missing from there also.

I use it quite a bit because the YouTube app is absolutely terrible. Half the time it says it can't play the video and to tap to retry. Sometimes it says this in the middle of the video. And download is SO SLOW. Even on WiFi. It was faster and more reliable to just download the video with Best Tube and watch it with the media player on the phone.

How can YouTube and Android be so incompatible? They're both owned by the same company! YouTube works better on my old WinMo phone.
