I tend to think that my smartphone is the most personal device that I own (ok, ok, get the jokes out of the way....deep breath, ready now?)

Anyway, point is that you use it every day and don't switch for some time. While you may be used to a slide-out keyboard today (trust me, I was, so much so that I disabled the onscreen keyboard on my TP2), the frequency at which you use your new device will make the transition easier, and after a little bit of your own customization to make it "yours" it'll be second nature just like your current device..

Switching between operating systems slows me down as well, even stuff I have used before. Using my wife's iPhone is such a departure from my day-to-day activity I have to either sit and think about how to get my task accomplished, or have her do it, even though I am very familiar with how iOS works. Same with Android, if it's not what I use on a daily basis it is not as easy.

That said, the WP7 virtual keyboard is tuned to be one of the best out there, especially for folks that are new to the concept. I was very impressed with it during my brief stint on AT&T.
