Never heard of this install method before but I dont use ROM Manager.
Why are you opening a flashable zip and not just flashing the zip as is?
Maybe ROM Manager allows different options but the standard is wipe, flash the zip....at least that's how I've done it the last 642 times

My GUESS is you are trying to swap the boot.img to avoid wiping?
Considering the latest is Gingerbread and you are most likely coming from Froyo I dont see any other install method working other than wipe/flash.

I could be WAY off base with my guess, I know.
