Re: Tutorial to upgrade your ROM to WM6
All,
First, I've been in IT for 25 years, and I've been going nuts trying to get my Verizon XV6700 to upgrade to WM6. I viewed and tried just about every Build version, along with all of the associated advice (which has always been helpful). I was running bootloader ROM 2.05 and it was made pretty clear that this did not work with the current kitchens so I read the thread to download it to 2.02, but, it was getting late and I didn't want to make a mistake (it was well documented though). In a nutshell, I want to thank you all, as I've read so many threads, it was a combination of them (I guess) that actually made this work. I know there's Bepe, Helmi (and team), GGUruUSA, CaptJager, Tiermann and a host of others, so please forgive me if I missed you. I'm just hoping that my info may help others with the 2.05 issue as it upgraded perfectly. Don't come busitin down my door if this blows up your phone, it just worked for me. Some of the steps may even be totally unnecessary, but I'm sure someone on this thread would be able to explain that.
1. I downloaded the VERY latest kitchen from whenever it was listed on these threads and installed it.
2. I downloaded the lateest PPC_Geeks.rar file and put it in the BUILDOS directory (without extracting)
3. I downloaded a file called PPC-BuildOS.EXE and also put it in the BUILDOS directory (Cannot even remember where I got it, but it would fail on run, but I put it there just like the rar file) - Again - this may be a useless step
4. I ran the app and it started up with a splashscreen (Chef) had PPC Build OS version 9.05 PPCGeeks infused. Within the app, the About screen still read .90Beta
5. As per someone's advice, I went barebones with Helmi's defaults, except:
- I even deleted Solitaire/Bubble Breaker to save space
- I selected Verizon under the Carrier Customize section
6. In the upper section, I chose Verizon as my Carrier, 2 splash screens and RUU X.04+
7. I built the OS and it upgraded PERFECTLY and I was left with plenty of Storage and Program memory. I didn't have any games, but I had all of the MS progs, I configured the VERY EASY network section to connect to my WPA-PSK w/TKIP and connected within a minute. I store everything on a storage card, so I plan to dink around more to see which apps I can load as CABs versus those that I need to load via a new build, but. right now, I'm happy as hell with where I am.
Again, thank you all for your help, I will be donating, and I also hope that something in my explanation triggers some true techie to understand why it worked so well with 2.05.
Thank you again,
