Correct, you have to buy a subscription. It does work nice, though.

Also, bear in mind it's subject to local blackouts. So if you live in SF area you might not be able to see all the games. MLB.TV determines your location via the phones location or, at home, your I.P. location.

With that in mind, the previous poster is right about the slingbox. I watch over 4g with no issues on my Evo.
