First thing we need to know to answer this question is if the encryption driver is included in the ROM... To save space some chefs will remove the encryption driver because it will save space in XIP etc because alot of people will not use it.

If the encryption driver is removed then this bahavior is "normal". If the encryption driver is present then something is wrong.

To be honest with you I dont know why he would leave the option available if the driver is not present unless he does not know the correct reg key to change to hide this option. So to answer this question you need to ask the Chef if he has the encryption driver in the ROM.

If the encryption driver is present then something has gone horribly wrong with device. My guess is no encryption driver and chef does not know how to hide option with reg key.

An easy way to tes this theory real quickly... Put card in SD reader and plug into PC. If you can read files youa re fine and the encryption driver is absent. If you cannot read files then the driver is present. Make sense?

Let us know how it turns out.
