I'd like to offer my expertise as an Galaxy S user *docks for the upcoming rocks* lol

On my Epic if I go to task manager, and look at ram I have 338mb total..while our devices are listed 512mb ram ..that makes quite some ram unaccounted for..

Well what happens is this the ram is actually withheld by the GPU as dedicated memory....(similar to vram on laptops)..and considering its a dual core it won't be out of the question if 256mb of ram is being withheld by the GPU per core.

So there is still a possibility that what you saw was in a way final..
