If you change your outgoing smtp settings under options to the network's your using, you should be able to send email via wifi. If you don't, it will try to send it over sprint's network (smtp.sprintpcs.com).
504boi, I'm guessing when you say it's changing your password you're talking about how there are more asterisks than what there should be? It's not changing your password, it just makes it harder for someone snooping around on your phone to guess is by adding the asterisks.
