It is stupid, I agree

. F22 has a thread going on XDA that has some additional options to change in the startup.txt, and hopefully his changes will get committed to mainline soon!

Just download the attached apk, install it, launch it and do the following to add paid apps to the Market:
- Go to Set custom tab
- Enter 310120 (for Sprint) as gsm.sim.operator.numeric; for Verizon, use 310012
- Click on Set to this values
- On main window, click on Save current settings
That's it, next time you run Market, paid apps will show up. I haven't tried to download a paid one yet but they do show up.
