But does anyone know if the correct description is "Sprint (Dial Up)" when you touch the EV icon at the top of the screen? this icon is the EV with a box around it and when you touch the icon, the popup bubble says "Sprint (Dial Up)" is connected. Is that normal?? is my phone on a "dial up" type connection and not 3g??

thanks
Mine says the same thing. You are getting 3g (evdo) if you see the Ev icon and 2g if you see the 1x icon.

Whether you realize it or not all these devices dial out for all our data connections. Have you ever noticed when you have a connection problem or maybe data isn't set up properly that you may see the "Dialed 777" message bubble that will pop up telling you it is unable to connect? I can't say I've seen this on my TP2 but I've definitely seen it before on my older WinMo phones.
