Go into msm7kcpuspeed & slide it up until it freezes. (stops blinking) It's now froze, use stylus to hit side reset button, do it again one step under that. Exit & browse the web, check weather, etc.. if it freezes again, go one step under that & set it. If not use that speed.
My last tp2 would freeze on 748, my wifes was one step higher
This one I have now 787 currently over 800 before... I even went down to 748 with winmospeed!

I never had problems with OCT and WiMoSpeed, but i decided to compare them with msm7kcpuspeed. So i installed it, using your precious instructions:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/1907574-post375.html
Seems that msm7kcpuspeed at 748 (as OCT and WiMoSpeed) is faster...and i even succeded to set it higher...
EDIT: i also had my 1st SOD
Another interesting thing to try (last night our cousins in the GSM Rhod thread were speaking only about this)
Start Menu Replacement: WINSTART 2.1
[WM 6.x,31-01-2011] WinStart v2.1, New start menu replacement - xda-developers
It is not free, but is very responsive, saves memory, has great transition graphics, customizable, and has a most recent apps section. It is memory saving like panel and compact start menu, but it is way more responsive.
I think it is even more responsive than the original start menu.
Perfect for our memory starved Rhodiums.
But, better than the original start menu, so it is good for all devices.
From that thread you can download also the free version WinStartV2.1Free.cab.
The "free" version does not have the option to disable the Start Menu...So download
Arto Start menu Remover from here (to free ram):

"hardwarestartkeyenabled"=dword:00000000
"hardwaredonekeyenabled"=dword:00000000
