I think my IP is permanently static unless the modem is restarted.

Also do you have a hostname setup since your IP is Static? I mean I do not see I really need one that much. Does it improve performance?

I am also curious why some hosts allow to request static IPs and what it does (Yeah they change dynamic to static.); does it change static to dynamic?

By the way my remote desktop connection is setup so that like anyone can access it (the less secure one), is there anyway to limit it to just my phone to be more secure?
I generally don't remote desktop to my home pcs..I use it for my servers (which are static ips forever)..

your phone uses a dynamic IP as it changes every time you connect..if you want to limit it I guess you'll have to look up the IP range of Sprint and set on the RDP port to only allow that range and block all others in your firewall/router..

some hosts allow people to have static IPs if they need it..such as in your case..

It offers no performance increase..it just gives you the reliability that if you leave on say a trip..it won't change mid trip...
