You have to remove HTC Sync AND the drivers that come with it. When I first tried this, I just installed the USB drivers that unrEVOked came. Looks like you have to totally removed anything from HTC before this can work.

I am new to android which is why unrEVOked 3.3 to root seems like a good option to get my feet wet plus I know alot of people that have an evo that probably wouldn't be able to understand the manual method. Though I fully intend to learn how to root with out it. I'd like to be able to flash to sprint lovers and the battery trickle kernel at some point.
Anyway, i installed the hboot drivers and downloaded unrEVOked 3.3
but as soon as you unpack it the title screen says to remove HTC sync.
Is removing it key to rooting the evo with unrEVOked? If so how do I remove HTC sync?
oh i forgot i am on:
Hboot: 2.10
radio: 2.15.00.11.19
software: 3.70.651.1
hardware: ver 0003
