The "HTC Prada" Launcher

This thread should be renamed to "What does you Today screen look like... today"). Mine seems to change on a daily basis.

I create touch panel GUIs in my day job for boardrooms and seminar rooms, so I tried everythng out there when I got my new phone back in December. I'm not a fan of the iph*ne, and my new Vista-inflicted (infected?) laptop is not inspiring another Vista clone (popular with the WAD/WA3 skinners).

I tried many of the launchers out there, and I liked the LG Prada plug in, but many of the buttons never worked (although there are people working on this) and no mods are allowed (so far).

So, using Wisbar Advanced Desktop, I started out creating an outright clone of the LG Prada today plug-in.

I really like the vertical tabs - I use them a lot in my commercial GUIs - so I made a functional copy using WAD. The GUI then evolved (the evolution/FSM fish wallpaper being approriate) with the buttons shinking in hieght, new buttons, and the addition of a fifth button position.

With WAD in 'run' mode (not edit/author mode) it is as smooth as the LG Prada plug-in that inspired it.

Applications used for my Today screen:

Wisbar Advanced 3 + Desktop
phoneAlarm Lite
rlToday

Clockwise, from the left:

1) The main Today screen. At the top is phoneAlarm lite, with one of their canned skins. I just started using this, so I haven't tried skining it yet.

The text below is rlToday, with my own minimalist clock and counter display for Missed calls, Voicemail, Sms, and Email. If you clear the notification in phoneAlarm, you still can quickly see if you have unread/unheard messages. Each counter can be pressed to launch the appropriate application.

Bottom row of buttons, from the Left:
- "Display Task List" function of WAD/WA3 which brings up both the WA3 task bar and the WA3 task manager menu, for killing or switching between apps. WA3 has to be running.
- "Switch to page #" switches to a second today screen. Still a work in progress, but SPB Diary lives there. Maybe some weather soon. Like I need to know its 10 deg C and raining in Vancouver....
- Backlight loop shortcut from Pocket PLus
- Shortcut to OperaMini4 (was shortcut to page 1)
- "Switch to page #" switches to first page (page zero) of the program launching pages

Each WAD button has a reverse-colour image as the 'pressed' image.

2) Page 0 "Phone Functions" of the program launching pages
- "Create new" is a shortcut to the WA3 "User Menu" that pops up a list to create a new email, new SMS, new task, etc
- The side tabs allow direct access to the other four pages and a return button to the desktop.

3) Page 1 "Access"
- access to the WWW
- OM4 gets the Safar1 icon because the "O" icon makes me think of Oprah, not Opera.

4) Page 4 "Settings"

5) Page 3 "Tools"

6) Page 2 "Multimedia"
- I created shortcuts for direct launching of the HTC camera and Album in video mode

There is still the HTC Cube launcher, which I use for speed dials sometimes. I prefer the dial-by-name feature in the OEM dialer. The only change the Cube has kept has been to change IE to Opera Mini 4.

I also use AEButton Plus to remap the camera button:
- one press to launch Music ID
- two to rotate screen right
- three to rotate left
- long press to toggle screen off

I find this so much easier to navigate than the cube launchers.
