I have unactivated devices that I flash.. hell, i just flashed NRG DEC 6 Dinik and XDAndroid yesterday on an unactivated TP1...

Service doesnt matter, the ROM will still flash..........

Is it just sprint service you dont get? do other carriers have a signal?? you could SIM unlock, buy a prepaid GSM SIM card, and get service for your trip..
