Thanks bakntyme....that is in fact what I did.
Just re-locked back to 1.06. Same errors as before. "00028002 Not Allow" on the PPC, "Image Error" on the host PC. Same results whether trying RUU or SD card method (of course no PC error on the latter)....
I get one hit on the error on the xda forum archives, referring to a 'hermes' devices....other than that, nothing....
Just got it Friday...don't think VZ put some other kind of lock on the device, do ya?? Any other bootloaders ya think I should try to get to 3.16 in order to 'go beyond'???
