what they do is release a new software update, then force you to upgrade for online access...

I read somewhere that there was a hack that can caused you t get banned from ever participating in the ps3 network based on your mac address on the ps3 being "blacklisted" Anyway I'm not afraid to hack my ps3 but if I do I won't try to playing online. And I'm still on 3.42

So and you're right it won't let me online till I update as required first. But as I'm reading through the wikis and threads I was wondering if I should wait before updating to use the hack or update latest official version first?
