Sounds like rooting and the EVO might be a little much for you If you really want the Knight or some phone in the future, just return the EVO now and wait for what you want..
now that i think about it im going to return it, get my tp2 back and wait for the knight , and u are correct but im not sure if sprint is giving me my mail rebate back which was 321 in total , 200 for the phone, 21 of something and 100 for the mail rebate
